Information
Blyth, South Beach is not the most scenic spot for windsurfing in Northumberland (Tyne & Wear to be precise) but it does work in most wind directions. Off shore gives good flat water blasting due to low land off the beach, whilst you can also get great waves or bump and jump conditions depending on wind direction.
Best to launching at the north end of the sandy beach that stretches from Seaton Sluice to the south, Blyth can provide great wave sailing at all points of the tide, however care should be taken of the groynes.
Best in S or SW wind directions and also the shore dump can be harsh at high tide.
Parking is free parking and is right on the beach; during the summer a chip shop van and ice cream van are usually in attendance.
You wouldn't really want to stay in Blyth overnight, but you are just down the road from the bright lights of Whitley Bay and all the B&B's, bars and restaurants it offers. For a quieter night and a pint in a more traditional setting, head for one of the cosy pubs in Seaton Sluice.
Directions: Take the A193 from Whitley Bay. First main roundabout, follow sign for the beach.
